Tips to Prevent Dogs from Heatstroke in Summer
Bichon Frise (detailed introduction)

The hot summer has arrived, and pet lovers are all focusing on topics about preventing heatstroke in summer. What methods are there to prevent heatstroke?
Short-nosed dogs are more afraid of heat. Short-nosed dogs usually dislike heat more than long-nosed dogs and have more difficulty dissipating heat. To prevent heatstroke, you can frequently spray cool water on the dog's nose and other parts during summer.
Dogs do not know how to regulate their temperature by themselves. Sometimes when they are hot, they don’t know to stop activities to rest, nor do they drink water in time. Since dogs rely on saliva evaporation to lower body temperature, when you see a dog panting with its tongue out in summer, you should first think that it is hot and needs water to cool down.
If the dog can drink water whenever it wants, this will greatly reduce the risk of heatstroke. However, sometimes dogs may forget to drink water because they are too excited playing, so owners must remember to calm the dog down and feed it enough water for its body needs.
What to do if a dog has heatstroke?
When a dog shows heatstroke symptoms, you should first perform "self-rescue" instead of immediately sending it to the vet. The key point of self-rescue is to cool the dog down as soon as possible by first removing collars, harnesses, and other items, then rinsing the dog’s body with cool water, or placing the dog in a cool water bath. It is important to use only cool water and not ice water since ice water reduces skin circulation speed, which prolongs the cooling time.
After cooling, the next step is to take the dog to the hospital as quickly as possible. Dogs with heatstroke usually will not drink water by themselves, so intravenous saline or other methods should be used to rapidly replenish fluids, and medical treatment is needed to help the dog recover.
If your dog has long hair, it is best to shave it in summer to help dissipate heat.
