Precautions for Choosing Dog Plush Toys
Samoyed Dog (Detailed Introduction)
Precaution One: The Eyes and Nose of Dog Toys
If you pay attention, you will find that the production of the eyes and nose on plush toys differs, but basically there are three types:
1. Attached plastic buttons;
2. Sewn or embroidered with thread;
3. Sewn fabric eyes and noses. Among these three manufacturing methods, the latter two are suitable for dogs to play with. Because you will find that if plastic buttons are attached, these two parts quickly become the first targets of the dog's sharp little teeth. Soon the dog will bite these plastic buttons apart, then bite through the holes to pull out the filling inside. Some younger and less experienced dogs might even eat the cotton inside, which is obviously very unsafe for dogs. For the latter two methods, because of the soft texture and general mouthfeel, dogs usually do not focus on biting them heavily.
Precaution Two: Filling Material of Dog Toys
Dog toys are easily damaged because dogs mainly play by biting. Therefore, you must consider the serious consequences if the toy is torn apart. Many plush toys now consider the tactile feeling when humans play and include not only fluffy cotton but also some small plastic pellets to increase weight. These small pellets will fall out once the dog tears the toy open. To prevent some dogs from swallowing these plastics, it is better to choose toys without this kind of filling. Of course, when dogs play with toys, we also need to check regularly if there are any tears and repair them in time to prevent any kind of filling from falling out.
Precaution Three: The Size of Dog Toys
The size of plush toys given to dogs should be determined based on the size of the dog's mouth – slightly larger than their mouth is better. If it is too small, the dog will put the entire toy in its mouth, quickly making the whole toy wet. It will also bring the toy to you to throw, but the feeling at that time is terrible, and if you don't want the toy to be always dirty, you have to wash it often, which is troublesome. Toys slightly larger than the mouth leave most of the toy outside the dog's mouth, making it easier for you to play with them without needing to pry the toy out of the dog's mouth, thus reducing washing. Also, do not buy toys that are too large for your dog; toys that it cannot carry with its mouth are not fun for it at all.
Precaution Four: The Fabric of Dog Toys
When giving plush toys to dogs, you must also pay attention to the fabric. Long plush is not very suitable; it's best to choose velvet or short plush. Because long plush has long fibers, dogs like to tear it down quickly, making the toy lose its shape, and some dogs might also swallow the torn-off fibers.
