【Test】Dog Skills Mini Test
Pomeranian (Detailed Introduction)

For us, dogs are not just simple watchdogs; many times they are like friends to us. Every dog has its own unique personality and skills. Training a dog's skills has become something many owners are very keen on, and some even send their dogs to professional training institutions. Actually, regarding dog skills, everyone can assess how well a dog performs through the following mini test.

  1. Social Ability: The tester kneels a short distance in front of the puppy and calls it over. If the puppy runs over with its tail raised, it’s a confident and social dog; independent dogs may be indifferent; timid puppies may come over hesitantly with their tails lowered.

  2. Following: The tester stands up and walks slowly to attract the puppy to follow. Confident puppies will actively follow; dominant ones may run ahead or get in the way; timid puppies hesitate, start and stop; independent ones may walk elsewhere.

  3. Submission: Turn the puppy onto its back with all four legs facing up, press its chest lightly with one hand to restrict movement, and gaze into its eyes for half a minute. Strong puppies will struggle vigorously without showing fear; timid ones will submit and avert their gaze. This test is very important; the strongest puppies are suited only for experienced owners.

  4. Temperament: After the submission test, immediately place the puppy in front, gently stroke its body, talk softly, and lower the tester's face so the puppy can lick it. A dog that does not forget being subdued and shows a narrow temperament is harder to train.

  5. Adaptability: Hold the puppy in your arms against your chest and stand for half a minute. The purpose is to test how it copes in an uncontrollable environment. Puppies that lie calmly in the arms tend to adapt better to unfamiliar surroundings when grown; those that struggle continuously are likely to resist human control later.

  6. Retrieval: Crumple a piece of paper into a ball and toss it a few feet in front of the puppy. Usually, a well-trained dog will run to the paper ball, pick it up, and return under encouragement. Dogs that show little interest or walk away have lower trainability. Independent dogs that carry the paper ball to a corner to play alone will need seasoned trainers. This test is important when selecting working dogs and assessing responsiveness to humans.

It’s hard for ordinary people to predict how a puppy will develop. Hence, choosing a suitable dog can be like gambling with luck. Some decide to raise purebred dogs, but even among purebreds there are differences. Choosing a dog is challenging. If deciding is difficult, it’s better to go with fate and choose what you like.
