【Test】Three Methods to Test Dog Intelligence
Pug (detailed introduction)
Nowadays many pet dogs kept at home receive the best care possible by their owners, whether in diet or grooming, very comprehensive and thorough. People like dogs for different reasons—some enjoy their cute and naughty nature, others appreciate their smart and obedient traits. Today we will introduce a few small tricks to test your dog's intelligence.
First Method: Table Test
1. Put a soft cushion on a table of suitable height.
2. Block the front of the table with something so the dog cannot see underneath! Very important!
3. While the dog cannot see the table surface, throw dog food (or meat jerky or other treats that the dog is interested in) from above onto the cushion on the table in front of the dog. What will the dog do?
Test results:
A. The dog sees the dog food disappear from the owner's hand and thinks it fell under the table, so it crawls under the table to look for the food.
B. The dog barks at the top of the table because it knows the food is actually still on the table! Some dogs jump directly onto the table to eat the food when it 'disappears'!
Choosing B means the dog is smart!
Second Method: Sofa Test
1. Tie a piece of meat jerky that the dog likes to eat on a relatively thick long rope.
2. In front of the dog, place the jerky into a gap under the sofa, a place that the dog can see but can't easily reach. Leave the rope end outside; how will the dog act?
Test results:
A. The dog tries hard to reach the jerky under the sofa with its paw but ignores the existence of the rope.
B. The dog notices the rope moving with the jerky as it tries to get it and then starts pulling the rope!
Choosing B is a smart dog!
Third Method: Chair Test
1. Place two chairs with backs side by side on the ground, backs closed but leaving a gap.
2. Bring the dog to the place where the chair backs are closed.
3. Have the dog stand outside the chair backs, while the owner stands between the chair backs so the dog can see you through the gap, then place the jerky on the ground. Watch how your dog retrieves the jerky!
Test results:
A. Big dogs directly jump over the chair back to get the food (shortcut).
B. Small dogs watch anxiously through the gap but can't jump in, pacing anxiously.
C. They go around the chair and enter from the other side between the two chairs!
Choosing C means a highly intelligent dog!
This testing method is suitable for adult dogs. If the dog chooses at least two smart options in these three tests, congrats, you have raised a smart dog. Of course, many dogs have been trained, and trained dogs find these tests relatively easy.
