How to Train Dogs to Eat Gracefully
Food plays an extremely important role during training. The dog must be greatly attracted by the food, but also show great restraint. Food that does not attract it cannot accelerate its learning process, so please prepare its favorite treats. When the dog can resist the urge to eat, that is when the training is about to succeed.
The training method is: make the dog obediently sit down. Place the food in front of the dog or let it smell the aroma to attract its attention, then raise the food above the dog's head while requiring the dog to sit. Usually, the dog will stare at the food intently, afraid that the food will suddenly disappear.
Slowly place the food about one step away from the dog. If the dog rushes forward to eat the food, take the food away so it cannot eat it, letting it know that if it does not obey commands, it will never get to eat.
Strengthen the impression of the “start eating” command. When the dog obediently sits down and does not immediately eat the food placed in front of it, allow it to wait for about 10 seconds, then issue the “start eating” command, while pushing the food toward the dog and immediately encouraging it as it eats. Be aware that the dog’s patience is limited; during initial training, do not make the dog wait too long to avoid losing its motivation to wait and failing the training.
Precautions
1. At the beginning of training, the dog may not immediately sit obediently and might stand up to jump at the treat. This can be corrected, and the owner must persist in giving no food unless it sits steadily.
2. Spend a week, 10 minutes a day, using 10 small biscuits to train the dog 10 times for obedience, patience, and dining etiquette. Also, feeding time every day can be taught in the same way, so the dog is less likely to forget and can learn quickly.
