How to Train a Puppy to Respond to Its Name

Dog lovers definitely hope that when they call their dog, the dog realizes it is being called and quickly comes over. Below, the editor shares some small methods to train puppies to respond to their name.
A clear, catchy, and pleasant-sounding name is very important to the dog. Name your dog as soon as possible, and call it whenever you want its attention, whether praising, playing, feeding, or even when it makes a mistake. The training method is: first use food or toys (small enough so it cannot swallow) as bait. When calling its name, shake the bait in your hand so it sees it, and it will naturally come over (this takes advantage of the dog’s innate exploratory reflex).
Use different tones when calling the dog’s name in different situations. When the dog does the right thing, call its name gently while petting or rewarding it; when it behaves badly, use a more stern tone; use different tones when playing or going out. The dog’s name is an effective way to attract attention, so once the dog knows its name, do not keep repeating it nonstop, as this will make the dog less sensitive to its name. Instead, use different tones to attract its attention, and once a tone catches its attention, you can give it commands.
If you are holding food, feed it directly, then pet its back fur and gently tap its chest. This action mainly makes the dog feel you are friendly and playing with it while still under your control; if holding a toy, let it play with the toy after it comes over without easily letting it snatch it away, but after a few plays, let it win so it will enjoy playing with you. During eating or playing, remember to call its name to make it accustomed to hearing its name when there are “benefits.” After about a week, it will get used to coming obediently when you call its name.
