Why Does the English Bulldog Keep Grinding Its Teeth?
1. Teeth Growth
English Bulldogs exhibit teeth grinding during their puppy stage. When dogs start teething, they experience pain and discomfort, and grinding their teeth helps relieve this discomfort. However, the downside is that they may chew on and ruin many household items. Owners can prepare some teething treats or chew toys for their dogs, which will significantly reduce destructive behavior.
2. Dog’s Venting
If the English Bulldog continues grinding its teeth and chewing things after the teething period, it is very likely that the dog is bored and venting its frustration by causing destruction. Owners should spend more time doing training games with the dog so it won’t feel bored and naturally will stop being destructive.
3. Parasite Infestation
Parasites inside the English Bulldog can also cause teeth grinding. Some toxins secreted by parasites affect the dog’s central nervous system, leading to teeth grinding. Letting parasites run rampant will only make the dog more prone to illness and weaken its immune system. Hence, regular deworming is one of the owner's essential duties.
4. Nutritional Deficiency
Nutritional deficiencies can also cause the English Bulldog to grind its teeth persistently and exhibit more destructive behaviors, such as not only damaging furniture but even eating garbage, furniture, or grass (pica). Owners need to check whether the dog is malnourished or lacking trace elements. It is best to choose nutritionally balanced and rich natural dog food as the main staple. When the dog's nutrition is adequate, pica behavior will not occur.
5. Difficult Digestion in the Stomach
Digestive problems in English Bulldogs can also lead to teeth grinding. Therefore, owners must follow a feeding routine and avoid feeding the dog arbitrarily at any time. This can disrupt the dog’s digestive rhythm and cause indigestion due to overfeeding. Feeding should be regular in time, place, and amount, and choose dog food containing probiotics and easily digestible natural ingredients to aid digestion.
