【Beauty Guide】How to Do Simple Grooming for Small Dogs
Dog Grooming
Although some owners usually do not pay special attention to their dog's appearance, if they are going to take the dog to some event, they certainly want their dog to be presented beautifully in front of others. Grooming is an important way to change a dog's image, and a groomed dog will definitely give us a refreshing feeling.
Suitable pets: Small dogs
Grooming preparation:
Steps:
1. Due to personal habits, some groomers prefer to trim nails after bathing and trimming the fur, but trimming nails generally has the risk of bleeding and can dirty the freshly washed fur. Therefore, it is recommended to trim the dog's nails first. It is best to choose a well-lit place when trimming nails as it is easier to observe the quick. If bleeding occurs, press the wound with a good hemostatic powder for about 10 seconds to stop it.
2. After trimming the nails, we need to comb the dog's fur. Some owners do not maintain good grooming habits, so dogs often have matted fur. If the fur is not combed before bathing, it becomes more difficult when wet and will also hinder drying. If the matting is very severe, the fur must be cut out first. To deal with mats, first cut an opening with scissors, then use a rake comb to untangle, and finally comb through the fur with a straight comb.
Bathing Order Matters
3. After combing through the fur, start the bath. The water temperature should generally be controlled around 47 degrees Celsius, not too hot. First, express the dog's anal glands so that any debris can be quickly washed away. The usual bathing order is from back to front, from bottom to top. After a general rinse, wash 1-2 times with shampoo.
4. After bathing, first roughly dry the fur with an absorbent towel, then prepare to blow dry. Use a water blower to sweep from the root of the fur to roughly remove excess water. Then use a hairdryer to completely dry the fur.
5. Because small dogs often have overly long ear hair, after drying, check whether the dog's ear hair is too long. If so, apply some ear hair removal powder, massage the ear root, and begin plucking the hair. After plucking, use hemostatic tweezers to hold a small cotton ball dipped in ear cleaning liquid to clean the dog's ears until no colored debris remains.
Make Sure to Completely Dry the Fur After Bathing
Warm Tips:
1. When wetting the dog's fur, the head is the last part to get wet, but when rinsing off the shampoo, start with the head first. This is to prevent the shampoo from staying too long on the head and flowing into the eyes causing discomfort. Cover the dog's eyes during rinsing.
2. Always use shampoo specially formulated for dogs, not human shampoo, as human products can disrupt the skin's pH balance.
3. Some dogs may be afraid of the hairdryer's noise, so owners should let their dogs hear this sound often to create familiarity. Also, always dry the fur completely; 90% dry is not enough. Wet fur encourages fungal growth which can cause skin diseases.
4. Many owners worry about injuring the dog's eardrum when cleaning ears, but there is no need to worry because dogs' ear canals are L-shaped, so the eardrum won't be pierced.
