Symptoms of Cats Having a Fever, Pay Attention to These Signs
During normal seasonal changes, many people catch colds or have fevers due to large temperature differences. Pet cats can also get sick during seasonal changes. Because cats are not as clingy as dogs, generally owners cannot easily notice when cats are sick, and cats' fevers do not show flushed faces like humans. Thus, many times cats silently have a fever in a corner. Today, let's learn about the symptoms of cats having a fever.

The normal body temperature of cats is around 38 degrees Celsius, which is slightly higher than humans. Not all cats have the exact same temperature, but the differences are usually small. When cats have a fever, their noses become very dry and may even peel. Their bodies will also start feeling hot, which are more obvious symptoms. Owners should observe their cats' conditions in time. When cats have a fever, their mental state will usually be poor, but since cats like to sleep a lot, many times owners cannot notice this symptom. Therefore, it is best to touch and observe your cat, especially their nose, more often on normal days.

We usually see cats with particularly moist noses, except when they are sleeping or sick, when the nose gradually becomes dry. If you are uncertain whether your cat truly has a fever, you can take its temperature, which is a more practical method. When measuring a cat's temperature, it is best to apply some lubricant to the thermometer because measuring requires placing the thermometer into the cat’s anus, so some moisture is needed. Also, don’t put the thermometer in too forcefully as it may injure the cat.

When taking a cat’s temperature, leave the thermometer in the anus for one minute before removing it. After wiping the thermometer clean, check whether the cat’s temperature is normal. If it is not normal, it is best to take the cat to a veterinary hospital for treatment. Since most of us do not know how to treat a sick cat, only professional treatment can prevent the cat from suffering too much and help it recover faster. Cats often like to be alone, so owners should try to get closer to their cats more often and gradually help them become more affectionate.
