Many owners often boast, "My cat is so smart." However, cats can perform ring jumping as long as they are properly trained.
If you want to impress your friends and family with your cat's skill, you can learn the training methods introduced in this article.
The hoop used for training cats to jump can be made from bamboo embroidery hoops or a thick iron wire bent into a circle about 30 centimeters in diameter.
During training, place the hoop flat on the ground, positioned between the trainer and the cat, and repeatedly give the command "jump" to the cat.
If the cat walks through the hoop, it should be immediately rewarded with food; if it goes around the side, a gentle scolding should be given. After repeated training, the cat will walk through the hoop upon hearing the "jump" command.
Next, gradually raise the hoop off the ground, forcing the cat to jump through it. Each successful jump should be rewarded.
At first, do not raise the hoop too high at once. Sometimes, after raising it, the cat may hesitate to jump. The owner can place food inside the hoop to entice the cat while continuously giving the "jump" command. Once the cat jumps through it once, it will become much easier thereafter.
After a period of training, gradually reduce the food rewards. When the owner can give the "jump" command and the cat can jump through a hoop raised 30-60 centimeters off the ground without food rewards, the training is considered successful.
