How to Treat Pyometra in Cats?
Oriental Shorthair Cat
Pyometra is one of the most common diseases in the female cat reproductive system, especially in middle-aged and older cats without birthing experience. It often occurs in the late stage of estrus and sometimes as a postpartum complication. Affected cats exhibit symptoms such as fever, vomiting, increased urination, increased water intake, and weakness. Depending on whether purulent discharge flows out from the vulva, it can be divided into open pyometra and closed pyometra. Regardless of the type, it can cause septicemia and become life-threatening.
Treatment can involve draining the pus and administering antibiotics, but surgical removal of the ovaries and uterus together is the best option to prevent recurrence. (Source:PetsZone)
