How to Treat Otodectic Mange?
American Shorthair Cat
【Symptoms】:
Ear mites are highly contagious. Clinically, affected cats show intense itching in the ears and frequently scratch their ears with their hind paws. Skin damage, ear hematomas, and head shaking restlessness are commonly observed. The ear canal may show brown-black secretions and symptoms of epidermal proliferation. Secondary bacterial infections can lead to suppurative otitis externa and otitis media. Deep invasion can cause encephalitis, resulting in cranial nerve symptoms. Affected cats show obvious ear pain, tenderness, and resist ear examinations.
【Treatment】:
Ivermectin injection at 0.3 ml/kg body weight, subcutaneous injection. Repeat injection after 7 days.
Dichlorvos: Add 0.5-1 gram of dichlorvos to 100 ml of water, dissolve, and clean the ear canal with a cotton swab twice a day.
Cats with otitis media should combine antibiotic therapy and corticosteroid therapy. (Source:PetsZone)
