This is the baby’s signal telling you that they are tired and you need to meet their needs. If the crying happens daily at the same time but the baby can soothe themselves after a while, this type of infant crying may be a normal developmental behavior and will decrease over time. An interesting phenomenon is that almost all babies cry and fuss at a fixed time each day. No matter how much you try to soothe them, it often leaves young parents helpless and confused. About 85% of healthy babies experience this. Child psychologists explain it as an adaptive behavior because the baby’s nervous system is not fully developed. They must constantly receive and process new information throughout the day, which can overload them. Eventually, they can’t cope and express this through crying and fussiness. Through this, babies release the day’s stress. After crying and fussing, they sleep better, more soundly, and more steadily. Parents can comfort them repeatedly with a gentle voice and create a quiet environment, which helps reduce infant crying. It is generally recommended not to bathe the baby before sleep but to do a full-body massage. Consistently supplement vitamin D, encourage outdoor activities, and sun exposure to help calcium absorption. This is beneficial for stabilizing the nervous system.
Because babies want to sleep but can’t, they feel uncomfortable and fuss. Therefore, many babies still need adult soothing before going to sleep!
