Can Pomeranians Have Their Hair Cut During the Monkey Phase? Generally Not Recommended
As a small breed, Pomeranians are a popular choice among dog owners. However, if you raise a Pomeranian from a young age, it will go through many stages, each with problems we need to pay attention to. For example, when a Pomeranian reaches 3-4 months old, it enters a stage called the Pomeranian monkey phase. This means the Pomeranian is moving further away from puppyhood and maturing. But when the Pomeranian reaches this stage, whether it can have its hair cut becomes the main concern.

First, we need to understand what the Pomeranian monkey phase is. After about 4 months, their weight and height grow rapidly, and they lose their baby fat from infancy, developing a small monkey-like face. This is also an awkward stage. Because during this period, with the large-scale overall development of the Pomeranian, its fur reaches a certain degree of growth, and if this growth is incomplete or uneven, the fur can look especially unattractive.

Given this situation, many people wonder if they can help their Pomeranian have its hair cut during this period. The general answer is no. When the Pomeranian is in the monkey phase, it should not have its hair cut. Haircuts can cause some damage to the Pomeranian and are not conducive to the dog's growth. Therefore, even if the fur looks less attractive or there is a lot of stray hair, we still should not cut the Pomeranian's hair.

If haircuts or other issues occur, they may cause some damage to the Pomeranian’s skin. If there is too much hair, we can choose to trim only one-third during grooming or make some simple styling adjustments. Avoid large-scale haircuts to help the dog grow healthily. Moreover, as a small breed with relatively little fur, once shaved, especially in summer, going outside for walks can easily harm the dog’s skin.
