How to Train Dog Dining Etiquette
Training a dog's civilized dining etiquette is indeed a big deal and a great lesson. Actually, we can often tell a dog's upbringing from its dining habits. After all, without good obedience, training cannot be conducted.
1. Training Purpose:
Cultivate obedience, establish the owner's status, and help food-loving dogs learn moderation with food. Encourage dogs to develop good habits of not being picky and eating regular meals at fixed times with proper portions.
2. Training Timing:
Dining habits must be formed from an early age; training should start from the first day the dog arrives home.
3. Dining Training Key Points:
Have the dog dine in a fixed location and finish eating within a set time. After the time limit, regardless of whether the dog has finished, the food bowl must be taken away.
4. Preparations Before Dining Training:
Before training, the dog should learn to sit and understand the command “NO.” For puppies, this is a good opportunity to educate them and teach them to sit. Puppies have little resistance to food and are easier to control.
5. Steps of Dining Training:
1. Prepare the food, attract the dog’s attention with the food, then have it sit. If the dog lunges toward the food, the owner needs to stop it and make it calm down in front of the food.
2. When the dog sits obediently and does not lunge for the food, let it wait 10 seconds, then give the command “eat,” and gently push the food bowl to guide it to eat. Initially, do not let the dog wait too long; gradually increase the waiting time to avoid losing its patience.
