Precautions for Traveling with Dogs
Traveling with Dogs
Walking your dog only around the neighborhood every day may feel boring, so why not take your dog on a spontaneous road trip? Pick a suitable weekend, bring the whole family, and imagine what a lovely scene it would be! So, what precautions are needed when traveling with pets? Let’s check with editor Boqi.
1. Training. Once you have made plans, you need to consciously carry out some basic training with your dog, such as sit, stay, and follow. Dogs that understand their owner's commands make trips more reassuring.
2. Planning. Generally, a trip needs a plan. First, find a pet-friendly hotel, then check if nearby attractions and restaurants allow pets. Also, never leave your dog alone in the car, especially in summer, as dogs can easily suffer heatstroke and die.
3. Preparation. Besides regular travel items, bring a crate, pet mat, and deodorizing spray and lint roller for cleaning the room upon checkout. Other items include: collar and leash, pee pads, pet carrier, deodorizing spray, food and feeding bowl, poop bags, wet wipes, lint roller, treats, paw wiping towel, pet mat, medicine (regular medication, motion sickness pills, etc.), dog water dispenser, crate, brush, and toys.
4. Precautions. A backpack for your dog is very convenient and practical, essential for travel. Always prepare plenty of clean drinking water. Do not feed too much before departure. Bring large towels, bedding, and mats to keep the car clean. Use a chest harness leash and preferably bring a muzzle. Apply preventive medication like "Frontline" for external parasites in advance. For motion sickness, allergies, and emergency wound treatments, consult the vet beforehand for usage and dosages. Bring dog license and tags, but do not hang them on the dog to avoid loss.
Being fully prepared when going out is most important, so it’s better to bring more items than to miss anything, then have fun happily with your beloved pet.
