Several Wrong Practices of Grooming Your Dog by Yourself
Dog
Many owners think that the price of grooming dogs at pet shops is too high, so they choose to bathe their dogs at home themselves. In fact, unprofessional parents doing it at home are more likely to injure their dogs, and if unaware, the following common wrong behaviors may occur.
1. Frequent Bathing of Dogs
Frequently bathing dogs and bathing more often when noticing itching or other problems. Frequent bathing destroys their natural protective oils, causing various skin diseases. Bathing once every 1-2 weeks is more suitable.
2. Using Human Bath Products
Human bath products work so well; they must also be suitable for dogs. Because the skin pH levels of humans and dogs are different, using human products will cause dogs’ skin to dry, age, and shed hair. Mild baby bath liquid is recommended. If itching or redness appears, stop using immediately.
3. Ignoring Dog Ear Hair
Always check your dog’s ears, especially long-haired floppy-ear dogs, as problems in the ear canal are easy to overlook. If there is too much hair in the dog’s ear canal, it can easily cause inflammation, making the dog feel itchy or painful in its ears. Therefore, do not avoid plucking ear hair out of fear of hurting the dog or inconveniencing yourself.
4. Not Drying After Bathing
Don’t think pet shop prices are expensive just because shops want to rip you off. Incorrect blow-drying not only causes hair matting but also results in incomplete drying. When dogs go to pet shops for baths, groomers spend time blow-drying them thoroughly, but owners doing it themselves may fail to dry properly for various reasons. In the end, the money saved on bathing is often much less than the cost of treating skin diseases.
