How to Bathe a Samoyed Dog
Regularly bathing a Samoyed dog is an important part of Samoyed care management, appropriate bathing not only keeps the Samoyed clean, hygienic, and beautiful, but also enhances the health of the Samoyed.
1. Bathing a Samoyed dog should start after two months of age and at least two weeks after vaccination. Samoyeds kept outdoors should be bathed 3 to 4 times a year, while indoor Samoyeds should be bathed every 20 days to one month. The skin of a Samoyed does not sweat like humans and does not need frequent bathing.
2. Before bathing, let it take a walk to urinate and defecate, then proceed with bathing in order. Place the young Samoyed in 36℃~38℃ warm water, first removing secretions near the anus. Soak a sponge in shampoo diluted dozens of times, then wash the whole body from the head backward. Afterward, rinse it clean with clear water. Be careful not to let shampoo enter the eyes, nose, or mouth.
3. However, do not bathe sick Samoyeds or puppies under 3 months old. Because sick Samoyeds and puppies have weaker bodily functions and lower immunity, bathing at this time can worsen the condition and easily cause colds.
4. Even for healthy Samoyeds, bath time should be chosen between noon and before dusk, and the coat must be completely air-dried.
5. If sick Samoyeds or puppies get dirty, you can gently comb the coat several times or wipe clean with a towel.
6. Samoyeds should be bathed after playing or swimming at the beach or coming back from rain.
