How to “Chat” with Your Own Dog

Dogs Biting
Dogs, like us, are not born knowing everything; they also need to grow through training and education. Some owners always complain that they cannot properly educate their dogs because they have not used the correct methods. Dogs cannot speak, so we cannot communicate with them through language, but this does not mean dogs do not understand us. Learning how to “chat” with your dog is an important part of dog ownership.
Actually, there is a clear problem today where some dog owners and non-dog owners easily come into conflict. A large part of the reason is that dog owners, trying to manage their dogs, inadvertently cause problems leading to disputes. Much of this is not because owners do not want to properly train their dogs, but because they do not know how. Therefore, we need to understand dog body language as much as possible and should train dogs from a young age. For example, regarding barking issues, the owner must understand whether dogs bark because they are naturally noisy, feel lonely, or bark due to illness or pain before providing appropriate training and treatment. This responsibility not only supports the healthy growth of the pet but also respects others and society. Only in this way can we create a harmonious space where humans and animals coexist peacefully.
The most common dog problems include jumping up on people, barking, destructive behavior, and biting. These behaviors mostly result from a lack of proper behavioral training. Dogs bite things for many reasons — usually to explore their environment. Dogs also bite when feeling anxious or restrained and may bite objects when isolated and unsettled. Biting can help puppies develop jaw strength. Similarly, chewing might be their way of exercising their mind and a source of joy. To solve this problem, pay attention to what the dog bites and when it bites, which will help you find methods to resolve the issues.

Barking May Just Be to Attract Attention
We can spray bitter stuff on items the dog has chewed or teach the dog that these things are not to be chewed. Over time, the dog will stop chewing these objects. Of course, using toys to distract their attention is also a good method.
Some dogs bark very easily; they bark when feeling anxious due to isolation or overly dependent on their owners. Some dogs think barking is an effective way to attract attention; some bark because they get rewards for it. Sometimes if dogs do not receive enough psychological and physical stimulation, they seek entertainment by barking wildly at leaves or shadows. Dogs also bark when in pain or experiencing physical discomfort.
For these situations, apart from barking caused by illness or pain which requires prompt veterinary care, the best way to solve barking is to ignore it. After being ignored for some time, the dog will stop barking.
To address bad behaviors, methods must be correct. First, identify the causes of these problems; otherwise, attempting to fix them blindly will be futile. So before you know the appropriate handling methods, do not arbitrarily discipline your dog. Incorrect methods may backfire and worsen the original problem. Targeted treatment is the best way to solve issues.
