Characteristics of Purebred Bichon Frise
Bichon Frise (detailed introduction)

The Bichon Frise is a cute and lively breed that is currently quite popular. However, sometimes many vendors sell mixed-breed dogs that look similar to Bichons as purebred Bichons, and many people mistakenly believe these dogs are purebred, resulting in being deceived. Many people also confuse the Bichon with the White Poodle. Therefore, today we will talk about the characteristics of the purebred Bichon Frise to give everyone a deeper understanding of this dog.

Male and female Bichons have a shoulder height of about 9.5 inches to 11.5 inches, with a gentle expression and deep eyes that are curious and alert. The eyes are round, black or dark brown, positioned on the head facing forward. Oversized or overly protruding eyes, almond-shaped eyes, and slanted eyes are defects. Around the eyes, black or very dark brown skin circles the eyes, and the eye rims themselves must be black.

The ears hang down, hidden in long flowing hair. The nose leather protrudes and is always black. The lips are black, delicate, but not drooping. The neck is long and proudly held upright, standing behind the head. The topline is horizontal, except for a straight, muscular, and rounded arch of the loin. The chest is quite developed, wide enough to allow free and unrestricted movement of the front limbs. The tail has many plume hairs, positioned level with the topline, gently curled over the back so that the hair on the tail rests on the back.

The paws are tight and round, resembling so-called cat feet, pointing straight forward, neither turned inward nor outward. The pads are black. The quality of the coat is most important. The undercoat is soft and thick, while the outer coat is coarse and curly. The combination of both produces a soft yet firm feel to the touch, and when patted, it feels elastic like long plush or velvet. After bathing and brushing, the coat stands on the body, creating an overall powder-puff effect. The color is white, with faint yellow, cheese-colored, or apricot shadows around the ears or on the body.

These are the some features that a purebred Bichon should have. Of course, slight deviations are acceptable but should not be too far off. Having a deeper understanding of the dog will help in better selecting this breed.
