Can you cut a pet dog's nails?
Cutting nails
Most dogs do not like people touching their paws and cutting their nails. It is rare to see a dog obediently letting people cut its nails unless it is very gentle, understanding, and trusts you enough not to struggle while you cut. Therefore, it is best to have two people when cutting your dog's nails, carefully using special nail clippers. You must ensure not to hurt the dog during the process, or it will resist more in the future. Regularly touching its paws and nails when there is nothing going on helps it get used to being touched. This makes nail cutting much easier later on. You can also take your dog to walk on rough ground frequently, so it will wear down its nails naturally, requiring fewer or no nail cuts. For my dogs, I have installed bluestone flooring at home for this reason. In pet hospitals, dogs are usually restrained with their four limbs spread out on the table for nail cutting. If your table has four legs, you can also use this method for trimming nails.
