Nowadays, both young and elderly people really enjoy keeping pets, with pet cats and dogs being the most popular. Sometimes life is too boring, and if people stay together for a long time, certain conflicts can easily arise. So choosing to keep pets for companionship is also a good choice. When raising pets, we will more or less encounter some problems because pets are quite different from humans. When we treat pets in the same way as we treat people, many mistakes can occur in between. Today we are going to talk about cats. Cats are different from dogs, so let's understand what to do if a cat bites?

What to Do If a Cat Bites

Cats are relatively independent pets. When the owner just acquires a cat, the cat may usually be quite docile, but after being raised at home, some factors may cause the cat to bite or scratch the owner with its claws. When owners just get a cat, they should carefully understand which things the cat is interested in, which things it really likes, and which parts of the cat's body must not be touched. Once understood, cats generally will not attack the owner. Only when the owner provokes the cat or does things the cat does not want to do will the cat have self-defense behaviors.

When the owner is alone with the cat, it is best to stroke its head or scratch it where it itches. If the owner keeps waving their hand in front of the cat's eyes, the cat may mistake the owner's hand for food and bite the owner. However, the owner should not be afraid and withdraw their hand but should use their hand to stroke the cat's chin to let it know this is the owner's hand. When the cat actively approaches the owner, the owner should respond appropriately. If the owner ignores the cat continually, the cat may also bite to get the owner's attention.

Although the cat is your beloved pet, if unfortunately bitten, you still need to properly bandage the wound. Once bitten, be sure to go to a clinic the same day to get a rabies vaccine, otherwise it may affect your health. If scratched by a cat, disinfect the wound with alcohol. Usually, if the cat's nails are a bit long, the owner should regularly trim the cat’s nails but not too short, as this may cause the cat pain.
