What Are the Reasons for Cats Sneezing

Reason 1: Short noses are prone to itching

Persian cats, Himalayan cats, and other short-nosed breeds are the sneezing clan; they always complain about having no place on their bodies to put a handkerchief. Their nasal passages are narrow, making them prone to sneezing. However, if a cat sneezes continuously, it may be infected with rhinitis or have a small foreign object stuck, requiring medical help.

  Reason 2: Invisible sneeze engines

Invisible mites, floating hair drifting in the air or hiding in carpets and bedding, can be found in every corner indoors. These tiny things roam everywhere; some are so small they cannot be seen by the naked eye, and some can only be seen by the refraction of sunlight. They are the reason sensitive cats sneeze constantly.

To remove mites, frequent cleaning of the home and airing out bedding is necessary; to remove floating hair in the air, advanced air purification products can be used. A clean home environment is key to ensuring healthy lives for both humans and cats.

Some cats cough up sneezes after using cat litter because the dust they stir up irritates their noses. Cats with sensitive respiratory tracts often sneeze when inhaling foreign particles. If you find your beloved cat sneezing continuously after every visit to the litter box, it’s time to retire that type of cat litter.

Reason 3: Ordinary colds are also troublesome

Cats catching a cold will also sneeze and have a runny nose. When the upper respiratory infection becomes more severe, the cat’s temperature rises, and sneezing can escalate into severe coughing.

If a cat shows such symptoms, the owner should promptly take the cat to a hospital for diagnosis and examination, and administer medication under the doctor’s guidance. Again, many cold medications used by humans are not safe for cats; owners must keep this in mind.

Reason 4: A relatively serious cat disease

Viral rhinotracheitis is the ultimate viral killer; its impact and high incidence rate are by no means less severe than the SARS pandemic afflicting humans. Sneezing is one of the symptoms of this disease.

Do not blindly give medicine to your cat whenever it sneezes, nor should you ignore the issue. Observe your cat carefully and analyze the cause of sneezing to treat it accordingly. (Source:PetsZone)
