The Family Training of Cats Cannot Be Ignored

Any cat has both obedient and bad temper sides, which depends on how the owner trains it. When some cats scratch claws or urinate around the house, owners mostly blame the cats. What we should reflect on is whether we have neglected the family training of cats, which has caused their behavior today.

  1. Cats are known for sleeping a lot and having independent personalities, so when people want a pet companion that does not require much care, they often choose cats. Unfortunately, although the owner's original intention is good, they soon find that cats often jump onto the kitchen counter to explore, scratch the sofa, bite and damage indoor plants, etc. At this time, they realize that keeping a cat was a wrong decision. So, they “remove” the cat from the family.

  2. The mistake of these owners lies in thinking that cats cannot be trained to be well-mannered and rule-abiding pets. Everyone has no doubt that dogs can be trained, but most people think cats cannot be trained and are “unreasonable.” Cats, like dogs and children, need behavior norms and guidance to know what is allowed and what is not. First, you need to spend some time clarifying what the cat is allowed to do and what is not, then strictly train your cat according to the rules you set, and the training process cannot be compromised (that is, you cannot be soft-hearted). After some time of training, cats will gradually develop good living habits; over time, you will find that you and your cat live more harmoniously and respect each other more.

  3. Be very careful during training, and do not hurt or cause pain to the cat. It has been observed that when kittens show wrong behavior, mother cats lightly tap the kitten’s nose with their paws as a warning. A cat's nose is very sensitive; a gentle tap on the cat’s nose can quickly attract its attention. Remember, the movement must be light.

  4. The key to the training process is persistence. If after a few attempts you see no effect and give up training, it will be more difficult to start training again: the cat will become confused and stubborn—can you blame it for this? But if you really decide to start training anew from now on, you must persist! This time training may be harder but not impossible to succeed.

  5. The most important point is to look at things from a positive perspective. The training process emphasizes the “no” component more, but don’t forget that you feel pleased whenever it performs the correct behavior. Whenever it behaves correctly (scratching claws on the cat scratcher, walking around the kitchen without jumping on the dining table or countertop), you should remember to encourage it, even give a little treat as a reward (when it is hungry). Encouraging correct behavior and criticizing wrong behavior leads to good results in your cat training process. (Source:PetsZone)
