How to Train Cats to Use the Litter Box
Cats may stop using the litter box due to environmental changes or switching litter boxes and litter. Newborn kittens may also encounter this problem. So how do you train your cat to obediently use the litter box? Here are four steps to easily solve the problem of cats not using the litter box~~
Step one, prepare a fixed litter box for the cat and place it in a fixed spot in the home. The litter box can be handmade or purchased from the market. Then spread a layer of cat litter inside the box.
Step two, in daily life, the owner should let the cat become familiar with the litter box first. You can catch the cat and place it into the litter box, then gently pat its head and butt, telling it that this is where it will go to the toilet in the future. Although the cat may not understand what you mean at first, after training and understanding, it will slowly realize this.
Step three, grasp the cat’s defecation and urination times and patterns. Before the cat develops good habits, closely monitor its behavior. When you notice signs that the cat needs to eliminate, promptly guide or place the cat into the fixed litter box to let it go to the toilet.
Step four, clean the dirt in the litter box timely, but also leave the cat’s fecal and urine scent in the box. This can attract the cat to go there to defecate and urinate, helping the cat develop the habit of doing so in the fixed litter box.
Training a cat to defecate and urinate in the litter box takes some time. It may take one week, two weeks, or even longer. The most important thing during training is that the owner has enough patience and determination. Only in this way can the training of the pet cat successfully be achieved.
