How to Help a Kitten Overcome Nervousness
Norwegian Forest Cat
When you first have a kitten, you might want to prepare a cute, fluffy little ball to get its attention. However, some kittens are naturally very shy and will hide away in fear when you look at them. If you experience this, the following two suggestions might help you.
During the first week after the kitten arrives at its new home, it will be cautious and appear very timid. But as it has more contact with people, this timidity will lessen a bit. Give it more space and don’t rush to get it familiar with you. When it feels adapted to the new environment, it will gladly approach you.
To relieve a cat’s nervousness, you can gently stroke it (at first, to prevent getting scratched, you can wrap it in a thick towel), gently pet its head, and softly talk to it. Doing this at a fixed time every day will help your shy kitten quickly trust you. When that happens, it will allow you to stroke its head without being wrapped in a towel. Remember, gaining a kitten’s trust requires sufficient patience!
"Tempting" a nervous kitten can also work wonders. Try preparing a delicious and healthy meal for the kitten. When it’s so focused on the food that it forgets its fear and eats heartily, you can gently stroke its head. Be gentle and avoid any sudden movements. This also requires the owner’s patience and persistence. Usually, your pet will eventually accept and enjoy your affection.
Never lose patience, and remember, your nervous kitten is not rejecting you; it is expressing wariness and self-protection when facing people. Love and perseverance prove everything, and a kitten’s trust will make you feel that your efforts are worthwhile. (Source:PetsZone)
