What Are the Symptoms of a Sick Cat
Ragdoll Cat
The symptoms that indicate a cat is sick generally include the following aspects:
1. A sick cat usually appears lethargic and has dull eyes. It reacts slowly to sounds, and the more severe the illness, the weaker the response. In serious cases, coma and disappearance of various reflexes may occur, and some cats may show opposite mental abnormalities. When a cat is malnourished, its fur appears rough, lacks luster, becomes dry and brittle, and its body becomes thin and weak.
2. You can observe the cat's nose tip to judge its body temperature. Changes in skin surface temperature and the temperature at the base of the ears can also be measured. A healthy cat's body temperature ranges from 38.0-39.5℃. Symptoms such as decreased appetite, thirst, sluggish movements, and lack of energy indicate elevated temperature.>
3. A normal cat breathes 20 to 30 times per minute. Sick cats usually exhibit varying degrees of anorexia and food refusal.
4. Changes in the third eyelid of a cat are closely related to the illness. Normally, the third eyelid is present at the inner corner of the cat’s eye and is usually not visible. When a kitten is ill, the third eyelid will protrude and cover part of the eyeball, sometimes even blocking half of it. In addition, secretions increase during illness, and pus or serous fluid may appear in the eyes.
5. A healthy cat’s ears move freely and respond sensitively to sounds. Sick cats show the opposite. Also, watch for any abnormal signs such as secretions or hair loss around the ears.
Besides these symptoms that require special attention, you should also observe the cat’s appetite, urination, fur, anus, and paws. If you notice any abnormalities, be sure to take the cat to a veterinary hospital as soon as possible for professional diagnosis. Do not delay treatment to avoid regrets. (Source:PetsZone)
