When a cat has cystitis, gastrointestinal discomfort, constipation, or other illnesses, it may urinate or defecate anywhere; secondly, if the cat's litter box is not cleaned regularly, or if the cat is dissatisfied with the texture or smell of the litter, it may eliminate outside the box; also, placing the litter box in busy, noisy areas, or if the cat was disturbed or frightened near the box while eliminating, or if the litter box is too close to the feeding bowl, can cause the cat to urinate or defecate anywhere; additionally, when the owner is frequently away from home, the cat is scolded, a new pet or newborn baby arrives, these changes can make the cat anxious and lead to inappropriate elimination.

　　We just need to analyze the specific behavior of the cat in response to these issues and take corresponding measures. But remember, punishment is not effective and can worsen the problem, especially if it is too harsh or applied after the fact. For example, severely punishing a cat then putting it in the litter box can cause the cat to develop a negative association with the box.
