Can the Habit of Cats Night Wandering Be Corrected
Himalayan Cat
1. Correct Night Wandering Habit Starting from Kittenhood
To correct a cat's night wandering habit, it must begin when the cat is a kitten. During training, use a cage to tame the cat, release it during the day to roam indoors, but never outdoors, and put it back in the cage at night. Over time, this will build a habit, and even after removing the cage, the cat will not roam outside at night.
2. Mild Drug Sedation
If it is really difficult, you can sedate the cat at night with medication and use a small amount of stimulant during the day. It won't take long before the night wandering habit is corrected. Also avoid letting the cat roam outdoors for a long time or allowing free in-and-out access, which can cause a relapse of the bad habit.
3. Make the Cat Attached to Home
A closed porch or a window extending outward is a safe place for cats to interact with nature. If your yard has a fence, another good method is to put netting on top of the fence to keep the cat within your yard. During the day, you can train your cat to walk on a leash, but be sure to use the lightest retractable leash and connect it to a chest harness instead of a collar. Get your cat used to wearing a harness indoors first, then you can take it on outdoor adventures. (Source:PetsZone)
