How to Train Cats to Use the Litter Box?
If the owner does not train the cat after buying the litter box, especially kittens, they may still exhibit urinating anywhere behavior. Although some cats naturally use the litter box, even the strongest instincts need the owner's guidance and training.
Most kittens learn how to use the litter box from their mother cat. If the mother cat does not teach the kitten, you may need to teach it yourself. Place the litter box in a convenient location for the kitten, but not too close to its feeding bowl. Put some cat litter inside the litter box. Some cats prefer specific types of litter, such as shavings, wood pellets or newspaper, mineral litter, or garden soil.
If your cat sometimes likes to go outdoors, you can mix some soil into the litter. Change the litter box for each cat every day. However, changing it too frequently may cause mistakes because the residual scent tells the cat how to use the litter box. When the cat just wakes up or after feeding, carry it to the litter box, as these are times it needs to "go." If the cat looks like it is searching for a place, carry it to the litter box again. If the cat urinates elsewhere, do not use ammonia cleaners, as this smell may attract the cat back to this spot.
Of course, no matter how much you say, nothing is more reliable than a good litter box. We recommend the IRIS Fully Enclosed Double-Door Litter Box.
