Why Dogs Chew Very Little When Eating
Dogs
We all see that dogs always eat very quickly. If it is dog food, which is very easy to swallow, they hardly taste or chew it before swallowing. Why is this?
Dogs do bite food into pieces, but they never chew and taste it. Once it becomes small enough, they immediately swallow it. This is the main reason they gobble down their food. This is especially obvious when you feed them smaller or softer items.
This phenomenon can be traced back to their wolf ancestors. As pack-hunting carnivores, wolves almost always compete with their peers for food. Only by eating faster than others would they avoid hunger. This behavior gave them a highly strong digestive stomach and has been inherited by dogs.
Additionally, dogs produce large amounts of saliva frequently to help the food slide down the esophagus faster.
