Why Do Dogs Eat Paper

The phenomenon of dogs eating paper is actually quite common. Why would a perfectly fine dog start eating paper? Is the dog sick or is there a deficiency of some element in its body?
1. It is not full, eating paper to satisfy hunger
We know dogs are animals that endure hunger but not fullness, and truly starving dogs will eat any food available. Whether it is a bedsheet or a stick, the dog might want to chew it to see if it can be eaten. The same goes for paper; a hungry dog doesn’t care if the paper is edible, it will chew and swallow the paper first.
2. Dogs like the scent of newspapers or some kind of paper and intentionally eat it
Whether it is newspapers or other types of paper, they each have their own smell. Some dogs eat paper because they are fond of a particular scent, such as the ink smell of newspapers. Some dogs like used tissues or dirty papers from the trash bin, which is purely a mischievous behavior that we must manage.
3. The dog’s body lacks certain elements
When a dog lacks certain elements in its body, it may develop pica, meaning the dog eats inappropriate items. The types of items may vary, and some dogs may especially like to eat paper. If you notice your dog particularly loves eating paper and it’s unrelated to hunger or the scent of paper, then consider adding some multivitamins to your dog's diet. (Source: PetsZone)
