When is the Pomeranian shedding season? Most are during this period
Among many pet dogs, Pomeranians are favored for their small size and adorable appearance. Owners who have raised Pomeranians find that although they are small dogs, their fluffy hair is dense and abundant, making grooming not easy. Especially during the Pomeranian's shedding period, it can be awkward and mysterious. However, after going through the "ugly duckling becoming a white swan" shedding process, the Pomeranian will become even cuter. So when is the Pomeranian shedding season?
1. Seasonal shedding in spring and autumn
There is generally shedding during the seasonal transitions in spring and autumn each year, as Pomeranians also need to adapt to the climate changes. This kind of shedding is a normal physiological phenomenon, and owners need not worry too much.
For seasonal shedding, as long as the dog is in good mental condition and shows no abnormal conditions, the owner only needs to supplement nutrition and feed foods high in lecithin and protein to help the dog smoothly get through the shedding period.
2. Shedding of puppy coat starting from 3 months old
Newborn Pomeranians have thin, sparse, short, and few hairs on their bodies, appearing messy and dull. As the Pomeranian grows bigger, hair starts to develop accordingly. At about 3 months, Pomeranians begin their first life shedding period, which lasts until 6-8 months old. During shedding, the Pomeranian seems to lose one layer of hair and then regrow warm downy fur.
Pomeranians inevitably go through puppy coat shedding during growth, a process that takes about 5-6 months to complete. Therefore, by 8-9 months, their fur gradually becomes fuller, and at 2-3 years old in adulthood, the Pomeranian's coat is at its peak.
3. Hair loss caused by parasites and skin diseases
Besides the comprehensive shedding once in youth or the shedding caused by seasonal environment changes, healthy Pomeranians rarely experience hair loss afterward.
If owners are careless in daily care, it may cause the Pomeranian to suffer from skin diseases, which can also lead to hair loss. When the dog gets parasites or skin diseases, it will scratch with its paws or bite with its teeth due to itchy skin, resulting in hair loss.
Therefore, after ruling out hair loss due to youth shedding and seasonal shedding, owners should pay attention to whether abnormal hair loss in Pomeranians is caused by illness. If necessary, it is recommended to take the Pomeranian to a pet hospital for examination and promptly use antiparasitic medicine.
