What to Do with Dogs on Haze Days?

Poodle (Detailed Introduction)
Haze may be our most hated air pollution, not only causing respiratory diseases but also blocking the sun, making people feel gloomy. If you have a dog at home, you might be conflicted about whether to walk your dog on haze days.
1. Reduce walking time, preferably avoid early mornings
Walking dogs is not recommended in haze weather, but most dogs are used to relieving themselves outdoors, so going out is unavoidable. After finishing bathroom breaks, return home quickly and avoid lingering outside, especially doing running or other exercises. Always use a leash when going out to restrict the dog's free movement, preventing intense exercise and getting lost. Haze weather is especially unsuitable for early morning walks, particularly for puppies and elderly dogs with weaker immunity.
2. Dress appropriately when going out
Dogs have full body fur, and particles in the haze air adhere to their hair and skin. Small dogs wearing clothes when going out can prevent dust attachment and avoid dry fur.
3. Supplement nutrition
Haze is more frequent in winter with less sunlight. Because haze reduces ultraviolet exposure, dogs produce insufficient vitamin D. In prolonged haze weather, vitamin D supplements can be given. To prevent dust damage to skin and coat, skin nutrition products rich in unsaturated fatty acids can be supplemented if necessary.
4. Cleaning and care
For dogs who are "outdoor sports lovers," staying indoors is obviously unrealistic, so it's best to minimize outdoor activity time. Upon returning home, disinfect especially the dog’s frequently used items like paw mats, dog beds, and pet feeders. Disinfection shouldn't be too frequent, preferably once or twice a week (large items like dog beds may be cleaned quarterly). When disinfecting, remember to soak frequently used items in diluted disinfectant. Also, daily fur brushing is important to ensure healthy skin and coat. After outdoor haze exposure, first use a small vacuum cleaner on the body to remove dust before brushing. Weekly eye drops can be used to clean eyes to prevent conjunctivitis.
