Introduction to Vegetarian Foods Dogs Can Eat
Golden Retriever (Detailed Introduction)

Although dogs are carnivores, long-term domestication has enabled them to adapt to human feeding preferences and lean more towards omnivory. Below are some vegetarian foods dogs can eat which are also beneficial to their bodily functions.

Apple: Rich in dietary fiber, it helps improve constipation or intestinal issues. Additionally, pectin in the fiber is effective in removing toxins from the body. However, because apples contain excessive sugar, do not feed dogs too much.

Banana: Quickly replenishes energy like apples and is similarly applicable as food. Besides being rich in dietary fiber, it also contains oligosaccharides that promote beneficial bacteria growth in the intestines and help bowel movement. Highly recommended for dogs with constipation or sensitive stomachs.

Broccoli: Composed of buds and stems, broccoli contains beta-carotene, vitamins B1, B2, C, as well as iron and dietary fiber, making it very nutritious. Especially the stem part has a high fiber content.

Pumpkin: Easily creates a feeling of fullness. Besides rich fiber, it contains vitamins B2, B12, C, and carotene. Vitamin B2 helps prevent anemia. Pumpkin is also very effective for improving constipation.

Cabbage: Contains sulfur and chlorine, which have a cleansing effect on dogs' stomachs and intestines. It also provides vitamins A, B complex, calcium, sodium, and iron. The inner leaves are rich in vitamin C, while the leafy parts contain beta-carotene.

Potato: Contains large amounts of vitamin C and potassium and is considered a low-allergenic ingredient. Always feed thoroughly cooked and heated. Dogs with arthritis, parasite infections, or respiratory diseases must not consume it.

Soybean: Contains abundant plant-based protein. Protein deficiency in dogs may cause weakness and increase susceptibility to viral infections. If feeding soybeans, cook them with water until very soft before giving to dogs.

Soybean Flour: Made by dry-roasting soybeans and grinding into powder. Soybean flour contains protein as well as abundant minerals and dietary fiber, plus fatty acids which help improve dog hair loss.

Sesame: Comes in black and white varieties. Sesame contains a lot of dietary fiber, iron, and rich B vitamins. White sesame is easier to digest and absorb than black sesame.

Sweet Potato: The tuber contains rich vitamin C and dietary fiber, with sweet potato having the highest fiber content. The mucoproteins in sweet potatoes are especially effective in eliminating waste buildup in the intestines.

Frozen Tofu: Tofu that is quickly frozen and preserved at low temperature, very rich in protein. It also contains minerals beneficial for maintaining healthy dog coats. After heating and mashing with water, it can be mixed with other vegetables for feeding.

Egg: Rich in protein. Feeding eggs to dogs can be an important protein source, but for allergic dogs, they may become allergens. So, be cautious when feeding.

Rice: Besides sugar, rice contains vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber. Although dogs are originally carnivores and rice is relatively unfamiliar food, it is recommended as a low-allergen food.

Carrot: Famous for its rich beta-carotene, it also contains abundant minerals and vitamins, with strong cleansing effects. Effectively purifies the stomach, intestines, and liver. Also beneficial in cancer prevention, loss of appetite, and heart disease.

Chinese Cabbage (Bok Choy): A vitamin-rich vegetable. Like humans, dogs need to obtain vitamins from food. Chinese cabbage is said to have considerable therapeutic effects on appetite loss or dermatitis and helps smooth body function activity.

Oatmeal: Made from oats, it contains 8 vitamins and minerals and is rich in dietary fiber. Adding oatmeal to the diet of constipated dogs should improve symptoms.

  Note:

Especially avoid feeding dogs fruits with high sugar content!! Some negative reports suggest that vitamin C groups in fruits may be harmful to dogs. Please feed selectively. Personal recommendation is feeding fruits about three times a week. Remember, dogs are not omnivores! Everyone should be mindful of this.
