What should be paid attention to when choosing an Akita Inu?
If you are ready to raise a Akita Inu, then selecting one with the best appearance is the top priority. Of course, choosing is related to aesthetics and cannot be forced. Here, the editor only provides some more common purchasing knowledge.
What should be paid attention to when buying an Akita Inu?
1. Appearance should be clean, lively and spirited, movements agile. When held by hand, the weight feels heavier than expected, meaning it’s a solid weight.
2. Open the mouth to check: the oral cavity, gums and tongue should be light red; teeth should have normal occlusion with no strange odor.
3. Akita puppies’ ears should be clean with no secretions. If the puppy frequently scratches its ears or shakes its head, it may be infected with ear mites.
4. The nose should be slightly red, moist and shiny. The tip of the nose feels cool and moist when touched with the back of the hand. There should be no nasal discharge or secretions around the nostrils.;
5. Eyes should be clear and bright. There should be no secretions at the corners of the eyes and the third eyelid should not be visible (the third eyelid is often the first sign when many Akita puppies get sick).
6. Body development should be moderate with solid muscles; limbs are thick but not bent. Walking should be normal, and legs react strongly when pulled by hand.
7. The abdomen should be slightly round and it should be impossible to feel the ribs by hand. If the puppy’s abdomen is swollen, it may indicate an infection by roundworms or peritonitis. A slightly protruding belly is normal in young Akita puppies.
8. The hair around the anus should be clean and the anus itself should have no dirt.
9. The most obvious health indicator for Akita puppies is the coat. A healthy Akita puppy has a shiny, fluffy, and upright coat. If the coat is messy and dull, it indicates disease infection or recent recovery from illness; such puppies are best avoided.
Akita Inus have a gentle temperament and are clingy. If you decide to raise one, you must not abandon it.
