       The canine digestive system has its own special characteristics compared to other animals; blind indulgence and unscientific feeding are very dangerous. Here I will briefly explain some special aspects of the canine digestive system. Dogs' digestive systems cannot secrete enzymes that break down disaccharides (such as sucrose), therefore they cannot break down or absorb sucrose. Once large amounts of sucrose or fructose are ingested, a hyperosmotic environment forms in the digestive tract, causing body fluids to enter the intestinal cavity in large quantities, leading to diarrhea. Once diarrhea appears, the body quickly dehydrates, resistance decreases, and the normal intestinal flora along with pathogenic bacteria and viruses take this opportunity to invade and reproduce rapidly, causing gastroenteritis. At this time, many bacteria and viruses that cause canine infectious diseases also tend to spread, resulting in contagious diseases in dogs. Therefore, even a small mistake can lead to big problems.

       As can be seen, excessive sugar intake by dogs can have serious effects on their bodies. Some dogs develop loss of appetite, diarrhea, vomiting, pale gums, and other symptoms due to excessive consumption of fructose and sucrose. Therefore, our love for dogs should have limits; do not feed dogs everything that you consider delicious, because we do not know what effects these foods will have on dogs' bodies.
