The Manifestations of Dog Depression, Pay Attention When These Points Occur
Dog depression is not very different from human depression. So what are the manifestations of their depression?
Dog depression can manifest in their mental state, showing lethargy and listlessness. Generally, after a dog develops depression, the most obvious and prominent symptom is that it always appears lethargic when doing anything or playing. For example, a dog that usually loves to play and be lively suddenly becomes quiet, staying alone silently in a corner. At this time, the owner should pay attention to the dog's recent mood changes, as it is very likely the dog has depression. Because after getting depressed, the dog, who previously enjoyed playing with the owner, no longer plays together and may even begin to refuse food and lose appetite. Moreover, it loses interest even when seeing its favorite toys and interacts less and less with the owner, sometimes not interacting at all. It always hides alone in a corner sleeping or daydreaming, which clearly indicates the dog is suffering from depression, as dog depression tends to be manifested by reclusiveness and indifference.
Another manifestation of dog depression is an increased preference for sleeping. Because depressed dogs no longer like to play and are less active, they prefer lying alone in their dog bed or sofa corner sleeping, appearing drowsy throughout the day. When called to eat, their behavior is sluggish and slow.
Dogs with depression also show large mood swings and become very irritable. Their temper and emotions become hard to control, with drastic changes, sometimes being down and sometimes irritable, with unpredictable moods. They no longer behave as obediently and gently as before but instead become easily angered and upset, and may even display aggression toward people, posing some safety risks. However, on closer observation, you might also notice they have become very timid and sensitive, showing inexplicable fear and worry about many things. Whenever they hear a sudden noise nearby, they immediately respond with intense reactions and behaviors.
