Should Dogs Occasionally Eat Some Bitterness
Welsh Corgi (detailed introduction)
Nowadays many dogs' lives can be described as having no worries about food or clothing. To a certain extent, some dogs even live better lives than some people. However, long-term indulgence in such comfort is not necessarily a good thing. Moreover, it is easy to find that some well-off dogs tend to develop various illnesses, so having too good a life is not always beneficial.
Well-off dogs usually tend to become overweight and obese. Along with weight gain, "affluence diseases" like fatty liver and diabetes often trouble pets. According to pet hospitals, about 5% of pets visiting are diagnosed with "affluence diseases." Experts also state that a reasonable diet for pets is the most effective way to prevent these diseases.
One case thought-provoking to many: A lady had a pet dog who had been with her for 11 years. Due to diabetes, the dog was euthanized. This pet was a Shih Tzu (detailed introduction) that came into her home 11 years ago. The dog was smart and empathetic, bringing a lot of joy to her life.
However, after a while, she noticed the dog suddenly drank less water, and its urine was very sticky. Shortly before, the dog also developed cataracts. After a doctor's diagnosis, it was confirmed the dog had diabetes. Because the symptoms caused great suffering, the owner decided on euthanasia.
Don't Let Dogs Eat Excessive Meat
Usually, due to high living standards, dogs eat a large amount of meat daily, causing an unreasonable diet structure. "Affluence diseases" not only put dogs in danger but also threaten the pets' lives. Fatty liver, diabetes, and myelitis are all part of "affluence diseases." These diseases are difficult to cure, making prevention key.
Dogs living too comfortably generally suffer the most physically. If dogs feel hot, owners immediately turn on air conditioning to cool them; if cold, they activate floor heating. This practice prevents dogs from relying on their own body to regulate temperature against cold or heat. If a special situation like a power outage occurs, dogs may be unable to adapt quickly, leading to heatstroke or colds, and in severe cases, it can affect the dog's life directly.
Regularly Exercise with Dogs
We can feed dogs delicious food but must control the amount. Some foods we consider good might not be so for dogs; they can even be harmful or poisonous. Besides a reasonable diet, moderate exercise is very necessary for dogs living a privileged life. Exercise strengthens their physique, helping dogs better resist external invasions. More importantly, it helps maintain a good body shape, avoiding obesity and related diseases.
Therefore, making dogs live too well is not necessarily good. Letting them endure some hardship and handle cold or heat on their own can stimulate and activate their potential, making their bodies stronger. Don't always let dogs live too comfortably at home; take them out for exercise regularly. Otherwise, sudden intense exercise might cause fractures or, in the worst case, paralysis. Thus, letting dogs endure some hardship is not a bad thing.
