Proper Handling of Conflicts Due to Dogs
Dog barking may affect others

Cases of conflicts triggered by dogs are common, but many owners tend to be emotional when handling issues, which can magnify minor matters into major problems that cannot be peacefully resolved. For the sake of dogs verbally fighting on the street, for the sake of dogs causing trouble, for the sake of dogs seriously fighting, we have encountered these situations before, but such methods are somewhat extreme. Proper discussion is the way to solve problems.

There are many ways to solve problems. It is not necessary to argue endlessly over trivial matters. Sometimes clearly expressing your thoughts is the best solution. Never take extreme actions because of conflicts. Recently, many dog owners in a community in Chaoyang District, Beijing, do not dare to take their dogs downstairs for a walk because more than ten pet dogs in the community were poisoned and died in succession. Everyone suspects that someone deliberately poisoned them. Property management staff said that since there are many dog owners in the community, uncivilized behavior exists. They do not rule out deliberate poisoning and are currently assisting the police with the investigation.

A nearby lady walking her dog told reporters that in two apartment buildings over the past half month, more than a dozen pets died from ingesting poisonous food. "They ate medicated chicken wings and were poisoned to death; both big and small dogs were involved, which is very tragic." After learning about the recent multiple pet deaths, many owners are worried that if children come into contact with poisonous food, the consequences would be unimaginable. Some owners said that rodenticide bait points have flags or boxes as markers and are avoided during dog walks. Pet dog poisoning can only be caused by deliberate poisoning.

Proper Handling of Conflicts Due to Dogs
Prevent dogs from urinating indiscriminately

Property management staff said that the community has about 7,000 households and nearly 20,000 people, of which 80% raise dogs. There are many dog breeds, and some uncivilized dog-raising behaviors exist, such as pets defecating and urinating everywhere, not using leashes while walking dogs causing others to be startled, and dogs barking at night disturbing other residents' rest. The property company said they have received many such complaints, so deliberate poisoning cannot be ruled out.

Poisoning behavior is punishable by law and is very dangerous because the poisoning targets cannot be clearly identified. If serious losses to others' lives and property are caused, involving public safety hazards, it violates criminal law and constitutes the crime of poisoning. According to the criminal law, those who have not yet caused harmful consequences will be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of more than three years and less than ten years; those who cause serious injury, death, or major losses of public or private property will be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of more than ten years, life imprisonment, or death penalty. In extremely severe cases, the punishment is death or life imprisonment.

Indeed, raising dogs can cause certain impacts and inconveniences to others, but we should also give some understanding. If others’ dogs affect your life, such as frequent barking disturbing your sleep, then discuss solutions with the owner. They will certainly pay more attention. Never resort to extreme actions like poisoning; if caught, you will suffer, not only financially but also in reputation. If the case is serious, criminal liability may also be involved, which is completely unnecessary. So, if conflicts occur because of dogs, you should first negotiate with the owner. Most owners are reasonable. If there are really some unreasonable owners, then seek relevant authorities for a better solution. Do not take extreme actions.
