Pomeranian Dog Care Knowledge

Pomeranians have flowing, fluffy fur. Yellow Pomeranians styled have a raccoon-like appearance, cute and lively, which is why many people like them. Pomeranians are among the most beauty-conscious dog breeds; they cannot tolerate even the slightest flaw on themselves. So how should you care for a Pomeranian in daily life?
  Reducing Body Odor
Overall, Pomeranians have relatively less body odor than most dog breeds, so many dog owners choose to raise Pomeranians. However, after raising them, some Pomeranians still have unpleasant smells. Actually, this odor does not come from their bodies but from their bad breath and ears, which owners can prevent and reduce.
Dog bad breath is a significant source of odor, so it is important to check for problems caused by dental tartar. Therefore, owners should regularly brush their dogs' teeth to effectively control tartar buildup, which helps maintain fresh breath.
Dog ears also often emit unusual smells. In fact, if owners clean earwax properly, this problem can be reduced. Earwax helps the ear fight off external pathogens; its color can be white, light yellow, or yellow, and consistency from powdery, clumpy to muddy is normal, but it must be cleaned regularly, otherwise even normal ears will develop bad odors.
The anal glands are the most important source of dog odor. Anal glands help dogs recognize each other because each dog's anal gland scent is unique, so besides greeting by kisses, dogs often sniff each other's bottoms when meeting. Also, wild dogs mark their territory by leaving anal gland secretions on grass and plants. But dogs living indoors have less exercise and weaker leg muscles, so they cannot expel excess anal gland fluid, causing blockage and swelling. Then the glands produce a bad odor, possibly leading to inflammation, bleeding, or rupture. Therefore, when bathing your dog, it is advisable to help clean the anal glands to keep your dog healthy.
The standard Pomeranian body should be full and vigorous, with a plump body and abundant fur, a gentle temperament, active when walking, and a cheerful expression. The head shape is long and flat on top. The ears occupy a very small part of the head; the face should be short and small. The eyes are sunken, oval, giving a small and elegant look. The chest shouldn't be too broad; from throat, chest to front legs should be a straight line. The tail root is slightly high, not too low, with long thick hair staying in the center of the back.
Usually scissors are used to trim the whole body hair into a round shape. When trimming, to maintain good body shape and neatness, hair should be combed up with a comb before cutting; the ear tips should be rounded. The tail root is trimmed wide with electric clippers so the tail curls over the back and reaches the ears. Nails should be cut short, and long hair at the toe tips should be trimmed, making the appearance resemble cat paws.
In summary, there are many grooming methods. Individuals can choose according to specific conditions and the dog's body characteristics, combining strengths and compensating for weaknesses to highlight advantages. Please select appropriate grooming methods to show your dog's “dashing bearing,” making your beloved dog more beautiful, healthy, and lovely!
Suggestions: To avoid body odor, bathe your Pomeranian once a week in summer, once every 10 to 15 days in winter. Vaccinate your Pomeranian on schedule every year and regularly deworm internally and externally.
