How to Train an Akita Inu? Try Something Challenging
The Akita Inu became a movie star thanks to "Hachiko," the loyal dog. It is calm, brave, loyal, deeply emotional to its owner, and understanding of human nature. However, it still has a certain aggressiveness toward small animals, a trait that requires training to prevent unwanted incidents. So how to train it, and what methods are effective?
First, you definitely need to give the Akita Inu a meaningful name, one that you assign and that will accompany it for life. After naming it, you must train it so that it recognizes this as its name. When calling it, combine the call with a hand gesture. If it responds, gently stroke its head or fur and softly reward it with some treats. Only after this training is successful can you proceed to further training.
During training, learn to use simple commands that the dog can understand. Preferably, commands are three words at most, and at least one word. Before giving a command, call the dog's name clearly, pronounce the words distinctly, and use clear hand signals. If the Akita Inu does not respond or runs around ignoring the instructions, then you should seriously reprimand it. Of course, do not be rough; lightly tap its head with a paper tube made from rolled-up newspapers or magazines, showing a scolding expression, and use a stern tone to punish it. Wait until it becomes submissive and looks very distressed. Then, appropriately comfort it and communicate with it. Over time, this will improve behavior.
Training requires patience; without patience, many things cannot be accomplished, and training a dog is no different. Akita Inus are lively and energetic and sometimes hard to control. Do not rush to scold or hit; remain calm and patiently educate. Some training might be difficult for it but not impossible to learn, just needing time.
Training an Akita Inu requires a clear system of rewards and punishments. Additionally, incorporating small games during training helps reduce the Akita Inu’s stress, allowing it to accept strong training more quickly and effectively.
