Afghan Hound (Detailed Introduction)

　　The Afghan Hound has a flowing coat, noble appearance, and elegant posture that leave a deep impression. In daily life, it is very clean and therefore when raising an Afghan Hound, you must remember to give it regular baths and grooming.
　　Afghan Hound Personality
　　It has a calm temperament and is not easily angered. Reserved and dignified are characteristics of the Afghan Hound’s personality. When you ignore it, it will not actively seek your attention. It is generally arrogant toward strangers, but because of its gentle nature, it will not attack people easily. It is different with its owner—very dependent and especially communicative with its eyes, enjoying looking at the owner and awaiting commands; however, it is not that kind of hunting dog that blindly obeys every order. Yet, the relationship between this hunting dog and its owner is excellent, unmatched by other pets. In addition, it might also be aware of its silky fur and charming appearance, so it loves cleanliness and avoids dirty places. When walking and encountering puddles, it skillfully jumps over them. Its favorite activities include grooming its coat or lying in a comfortable spot (changing position at most twice). Although very active outdoors, it is quiet indoors and won’t bother you all day.
　　It is lively and energetic, requiring ample exercise and daily outdoor activities. During walks, be aware that it can become overly excited when far from its owner. If it takes off running, its speed is faster than a horse. Besides that, it has excellent explosive power and jumping ability (can jump fifty to sixty centimeters vertically easily). Its physical coordination is exceptional; for example, if it suddenly encounters an obstacle ahead, the Afghan Hound can quickly react while running at high speed, nimbly turning to avoid it. It loves water and will jump in whenever it sees it; if possible, provide more opportunities for it to interact with water.
　　It has a strong sense of independence. Therefore, detailed and thorough training is necessary during its puppy stage. Being a large breed, it needs good discipline when young to avoid developing an irritable temperament. A well-trained adult dog generally adapts well to children and adults. It is heat and cold tolerant and highly adaptable to environments: it can endure harsh conditions with strong patience. However, it sometimes shows a neurotic side. Despite its robust physique, like humans, the dog can develop depression with various dissatisfactions after disturbances, leading to visible weight loss, insomnia, and frequent dreaming.
