How to Train a Dog to Catch a Frisbee
Training a dog to catch a frisbee is sometimes not an easy task. Sometimes, to the dog, the frisbee may not seem like a fun game. Below I briefly introduce how to train your dog to become a frisbee dog. When training your dog to play frisbee, the owner can first hold the toy with their hand and press it directly onto the dog's mouth. The dog will naturally open its mouth to catch it.
Then gradually practice increasing the distance inch by inch, and gradually increase the height, allowing the dog to slowly learn to catch the frisbee toy.
1. Dog is not interested — use the toy your dog likes playing with the most to train, gradually cultivating interest;
2. Dog holds the toy and won't release — the owner taps the ground with their hand to signal the dog to drop it. After dropping, give a reward. If ineffective, the owner can occasionally take the toy and then reward;
3. Dog holds the toy but won’t bring it back — the owner walks over and taps the ground to signal the dog to drop. Then gradually increase the distance to signal the dog to drop, repeating the training.
4. Dog only picks up the toy from the ground, doesn’t know how to catch it with the mouth — first hold the toy with your hand and press it directly into the dog’s mouth; the dog will naturally open its mouth to catch it. Then gradually increase the distance inch by inch, and gradually increase the throwing height until the dog learns to catch the toy in the air;
5. Dog reacts slowly after the toy is thrown and doesn’t know to chase it — strengthen the reaction training: the owner stands upright and lets the toy slide from the hand for the dog to catch. Repeated practice will improve the dog’s reaction ability.
