How is the Shorthaired Pointer? It is a friendly and intelligent dog

How is the Shorthaired Pointer? The Shorthaired Pointer is almost unseen in China, but it often appears in some foreign films, thus gaining a number of Chinese fans. However, due to the limited number domestically, there is very little understanding of the Shorthaired Pointer. Below is an explanation for lovers of the Shorthaired Pointer.

The temperament of the Shorthaired Pointer

Intelligent, active, eager to learn, loyal, and brave. The German Shorthaired Pointer is a friendly, intelligent, and helpful dog. The first impression it gives is enthusiastic and eager to work, with no signs of nervousness or attempts to escape. This dog can be friendly with children, other dogs, and any household pets. It can also fulfill the duties of a watchdog. They are quiet, reliable, well-disciplined, neither shy nor overly excited.

  Grooming the Shorthaired Pointer

The grooming of the German Shorthaired Pointer is relatively simple. Daily brushing stimulates the natural oils, removes loose and aging hair, and keeps its coat shiny and healthy.

Nails should be trimmed regularly and kept as short as possible. Before participating in shows, applying a small amount of coat oil to the nails will yield good results.

Keep teeth free from tartar; if needed, provide dental cleaning.

For a show dog, whiskers and decorative facial hair must be treated carefully. Hair on the belly, ribs, rear thighs, and tail tip should be trimmed carefully. Ears should be gently cleaned with cotton or a quality cleaner. It is best to bathe the dog one or two days before a show to allow natural oils to regenerate.

Regular care of the dog’s teeth, paws, and ears will make grooming for shows easier. A well-maintained German Shorthaired Pointer will often be in its best condition.

  Distribution of the Shorthaired Pointer

This dog can hunt quail, grouse, partridge, snipe, ducks, wild rabbits, raccoons, kangaroos, and more. It is also often used to track and capture deer. Its lack of unpleasant coat and webbed feet enable it to retrieve prey from complex terrain or cold water.

The German Shorthaired Pointer was the first breed recognized and issued a pedigree certificate by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in March 1930. The first AKC licensed German Shorthaired Pointer specialty show was held on March 29-30, 1941, by the Chicago International Kennel Club. The first AKC licensed field test for the breed was on May 21, 1944, in Anoka, Minnesota.

Due to involvement with many breeds, the origin of the German Shorthaired Pointer cannot be accurately described. Before the establishment of pedigrees in 1870, few records were available. German hunting enthusiasts spent many years attempting to breed a truly versatile, practical working dog to meet local users’ needs.

The core foundation stock of this breed mainly appears to be German hunting dogs, descended from an old Spanish pointing dog that did not fully meet needs. Its practicality was enhanced by the introduction of local scent-sensitive hunting dogs and tracking-type dogs.

These local types of dogs were also reliable in water and frequently used by German forest managers. There was also a great diversity of types among the local scent-sensitive hunting dogs.

Their origin spans centuries, mainly from hunting dogs introduced from some Eastern countries after the Crusades and further developed mainly in France, so much so that they actually formed the ancestors of all modern scent-sensitive hunting dogs.
