Bulldogs are short and chubby, a bit silly and a bit dull. They may look fierce on the outside, but their temperament is very calm and gentle, loved by many people. The dietary structure of Bulldogs differs from other dogs, so their feeding requires extra attention.

  How to scientifically feed Bulldogs?

  1. Choose flat-bottom bowls to feed Bulldogs.

  2. During the first 4 months, feed 4 meals a day, dilute the dog food 1:1 with warm water, and add some yogurt (helps digestion) and soft cheese (helps bone growth).

  3. From 4-6 months, change Bulldog’s diet to 3 meals per day; after 6 months, reduce to 2 meals per day. However, most owners still feed 3-4 diluted meals daily!

  4. Before 6 months of age, avoid restricting food intake. If Bulldogs lack nutrition, their body development will be limited.

  5. Never feed any food containing soy. Unlike other dogs, Bulldogs have very sensitive digestive systems and may burp or vomit after eating compressed kibble.

  Precautions when feeding Bulldogs:

First, feeding Bulldogs should be regular, with fixed times and amounts daily. Young and elderly Bulldogs should be fed small meals frequently. Adult Bulldogs only need 1-2 measured meals per day. Of course, the food prepared must be fresh, such as professional dog food or dog meals made from professional recipes. Avoid unhealthy or inappropriate foods (cat food, rabbit food), do not feed them to Bulldogs casually.

Second, when preparing food, ensure its nutritional value. The best way is to check the nutrition facts and ratios on dog food packaging. Choose suitable foods based on the Bulldog’s actual condition. Dogs need enough protein, calcium, and other nutrients during growth. Select dog foods rich in protein with balanced nutrients.

Lastly, do not give Bulldogs expired, rotten, spoiled, or odorous food, nor raw, frozen, spicy, or irritating foods. Also, human snacks such as chocolate, candy, ice cream, etc. are not suitable for Bulldogs.

What do Bulldogs love to eat?

Bulldogs love large bones the most. These bones contain rich marrow and calcium, which greatly help Bulldogs’ nutrition absorption. Feeding large bones also exercises their bite strength and cleans food residues and dirt from their teeth, which is great for oral health. Note that small and sharp bones like those from chicken, duck, or fish must never be given to Bulldogs.

In addition, animal liver is one of the Bulldog’s favorite foods, such as chicken liver. These foods are highly nutritious and have a unique smell that attracts Bulldogs. However, liver should be fed in moderation. For example, feeding large amounts of chicken liver to healthy Bulldogs can cause vitamin A toxicity and obesity.

Strictly speaking, Bulldogs are omnivorous but lean towards carnivorous. In life, Bulldogs prefer meat such as chicken, lamb, beef, etc. However, during feeding, ensure balanced and comprehensive nutrition by properly combining meat and vegetables, preparing appropriate foods scientifically so that Bulldogs can grow healthily — that is the owner’s main goal.

Editor’s tip: Bulldogs’ nutritional needs are completely different from humans, so do not choose foods for Bulldogs based on human nutritional needs. Owners should follow the above information to scientifically feed their Bulldogs~
