5. Psychological trauma: Beyond physical pain, being violently abused by the most trusted owner causes serious psychological harm. Cats may feel extreme fear, confusion, and anxiety, possibly losing trust in humans, becoming timid, avoidant, aggressive, or exhibiting severe stress reactions such as refusing food, improper elimination, excessive grooming, and even other illnesses. Studies indicate emotional abuse in animals may cause suffering equal to or surpassing physical pain.

Even if the cat survives, it may face long-term pain, disability, and costly medical care. Treatment of fractures, internal injuries, etc., may require complicated surgeries and long rehabilitation, often costing thousands or tens of thousands of RMB, and the cat may suffer permanent sequelae needing special care.

• Seek help from animal protection organizations or rescue groups experienced in handling such cases.
• If necessary, report to the police. Although specialized laws are lacking, existing laws (like the Public Security Administration Punishment Law) may hold offenders accountable.
• If the abused cat survives, take it promptly to a professional veterinary hospital for examination and treatment.
