Why Do Kittens Like to Bite People? It May Be Related to Their Growing Environment
Kittens like to bite people because cats have innate hunting behaviors and skills from birth, and they regard us humans as hunting targets. When they feel threatened by the outside world, they automatically launch a defensive counterattack.
Kittens' tendency to bite also depends on their growing environment. For example, if they are born as strays and frequently roam outside, they must have certain survival abilities. This makes their nature very wild, and their attack power particularly strong. Even if they are later adopted, it is difficult to change their sensitive, timid, vigilant, and wild behaviors developed from a young age. Therefore, it is hard for them to accept their adopter as their owner right away. When they see the owner reaching out to be friendly or to play with them, they may think the owner is attacking them and will automatically initiate a counterattack.
When cats feel great pressure or emotional instability, if someone disturbs or provokes them, they will develop hostility toward people and may launch attacks. Cats do experience stress, but the difference between cats and humans is that we do not understand how their stress is generated. Therefore, do not provoke them when they are in a bad mood or forcibly pet or tease them, as you might unexpectedly get bitten. During corporal punishment, cats will develop a certain stress response. Some cats have been abused from a young age, so if you punish them too harshly, they might think you are trying to kill them. When disciplining a cat, avoid frequent corporal punishment. Instead, you can refuse to feed them or place them in a small corner to reflect silently without attention. If they feel secure, they will not attack their owners carelessly.
If a kitten is not disciplined from an early age and the owner allows it to bite, it will develop a bad habit of liking to bite people. Because kittens are small and weak, if you let them get away with it, it will be difficult to control when they grow up. Therefore, training a kitten not to bite should start early.
