  1. Traveling by Train

  (1) Obtain an animal quarantine certificate for leaving the county. will be placed in the luggage carriage. First, you need to take your pet to the local animal quarantine station in your residing district or county to get the quarantine certificate for leaving the county. It should be noted that this certificate is valid for a maximum of 7 days and must still be valid when the pet arrives at the destination station. After obtaining the certificate, you need to bring your pet and the certificate to the railway veterinary quarantine station for stamping.

  (2) Bring your own food. Two hours before the train departs, bring the pet to the luggage consignment counter at the train station for weighing. The fee for carrying pets via luggage consignment depends on the pet’s weight and the train’s travel distance. For example, from Beijing to Shanghai, the fee is about 3 yuan per kilogram. When handling luggage consignment for pets, the owner must be on the same train as the pet and should personally bring food to feed the pet in the luggage carriage. Note: Do not feed your pet within 4 hours before departure.

  2. Airplane Cargo

  (1) Since the vast majority of domestic flights offer pet cargo services, pet owners should inquire several days in advance about flights with oxygenated cargo holds and book tickets accordingly.

  (2) You must go to the designated livestock veterinary station at the airport to obtain the related quarantine certificates. However, these certificates have limited validity, so airlines generally require these certificates to be processed 2-3 days before departure. Due to stricter animal quarantine for air cargo, airplane transport better ensures the health of animals.

  (3) Bring all documents and go to the airport early to handle cargo procedures. Note that air cargo fees are charged according to the cat’s weight, so the cat’s weight should be measured in advance.

  3. Driving with Cats in Your Private Car

  (1) If your cat is not up to date on vaccinations, it is best to vaccinate the cat half a month before departure. Because cats may have weakened immunity due to stress during the trip, making them susceptible to diseases.

  (2) Ideally, travel with two or more people, so one can drive while another accompanies the cat. If driving alone, place the cat in the front passenger seat so it can see you, and talk to the cat occasionally to give it a sense of security.

  (3) Prepare an airline carrier or cat bag. If two people travel, it is recommended to fix the cat carrier in the gap between the back seat and front seat, with one person sitting in the back seat to accompany the cat; if traveling alone with a cat, place the carrier on the front passenger seat and be sure to fasten the carrier with a seat belt to avoid any danger.
