People who understand cats know they have a pair of charming eyes, as if they can communicate with us. It is these charming big eyes that allow them to see clearly at night, but cats’ eyes are also fragile and prone to diseases, resulting in excessive eye discharge. This may make cats uncomfortable and may indicate that the cat has contracted some illness. If there is anything unusual with a cat’s eyes, the owner must take it to the hospital in time.

After cats wake up, they may occasionally have eye discharge just like humans do, but they use their “hands” to wipe off dirty things from their eyes. Therefore, normal cat eyes will not have too much eye discharge. If a cat has excessive eye discharge, it may be because the cat has fallen ill and produced a lot of discharge. Let’s analyze what causes excessive eye discharge in cats.

When cats have excessive eye discharge and tearing at the corners of their eyes, owners should first take the cat’s temperature to see if it has a cold. If the cat’s nose is very dry, it might have caught a cold. When the indoor temperature is too high, the cat’s temperature may be one degree higher than normal; if it is more than one degree higher, the owner needs to take the cat to the hospital for treatment. Owners should wash their hands before holding the cat and clean around the cat’s eyes with saline. If there is dried eye discharge, it can be moistened before wiping clean. If the dried discharge cannot be cleaned off, do not forcibly tear it off, as it will hurt the cat’s skin. A cat’s eyes, like humans’, are very fragile. If there is no saline available, you can use your own eye drops in the cat’s eyes, which works the same. After dripping, to prevent the cat from touching its eyes, hold the cat’s head until the eye drops are gone.

If owners want to avoid dirt in their cat’s eyes, they need to clean the cat’s sleeping area and maintain hygiene in its diet timely. Let the cat sunbathe to kill bacteria. Do not arbitrarily give cats medicine; follow the vet’s instructions, and have regular check-ups to prevent bacterial infections. Regarding diet, it should be mainly light. The health of animals needs our supervision.
